About

Meet the author

I am an L.A.-based writer and author, art dealer, museum curator, jewelry designer, and pioneer in the temporary tattoo industry. That may sound like a lot, but when you’re in the arts, you’d better know how to do more than one thing. I am a native of Port-au-Prince, Haiti; I came to the States when I was eight years old. Grew up in New York, spent several years in Miami, and in 1986, headed west, where I remain to this day. Life is good in California.

In a nutshell, here’s all the stuff I do:

  • Writer »
    (books & blogs & such)
  • Art Dealer »
(co-owner of the 18-year-old Galerie Lakaye)
  • Museum Curator »
(freelancing in venues throughout southern California)
  • Jewelry Designer »
(where I get to dive in there and use my own two hands)
  • Body Art Pioneer »
(having created the ever-popular Earth Henna Body Painting Kit)

Thinking Out Loud

On Blogging…

I don’t know why anyone should care what I think, but I have opinions, and no one is willing to pay me to have my own Opinion column in a respected newspaper. Damn, I’m getting too old to work for free.

On the State of the World…

It was born more than 6,000 years ago.

On Barack Obama…

He either needs a bigger set of cojones or at the fundamental level, the system is rigged and can’t be fixed. Sad to say but the government does indeed seem to be run by Wall Street and the money/power brokers. However, on the non-financial end of things, I would say he’s doing well enough.

On the Environment…

Going green is not a choice, we were born that way. Going organic — now, that’s expensive.

On the Existence of God/The Great Mystery/A Creative Force…

Let’s make a deal: Don’t make fun of my imaginary friend, and I won’t make fun of you for not having one.

On Haiti…

It’s small enough; let’s use it as a testing ground for creating an ecologically sound and prosperous state with workable healthcare and affordable education.

Love ’em… (in no particular order)

Hamburgers, flat shoes, martinis, trips to exotic places, dancing parties, good bread, lipstick, men who love women, cash in my pocket, good books, full-bodied red wine, meditation, girlfriends, art, artists, politics, beaches, movies, sushi, coffee, dishwashers, massages…

Hate ’em (in no particular order)

Headaches, okra, traffic jams, corrupt cops, parking permits, insurance companies, credit card companies, big egos, racists, TV sitcoms, TV news, cilantro, shock jocks, cocaine, cellulite, liars, rich penny pinchers, milk, crème brulé, poverty, religious dogma…

Most Recent Pleasurable Activity…

Laughing up a storm at several excellent snail jokes.

Most Unenjoyable Recent Activity

The endless back and forth with my bank about a mortgage refinance, which was ultimately denied. Why can’t I benefit from those low rates? Guess I should fall behind on my payments just for fun…
